“She’s my perfect girl exclusive to my world… No, you can’t get her. She’s my imaginary diva.” Mark Collins sang. He’s a member of an Irish pop band that was founded by Bernardo de Carpio about ten years ago. They were globally called the F-squared. But Mark secretly called themselves, the Flip-flops. Well, maybe because they love slippers especially the green and purple ones. Or maybe because when they wear slippers or flip-flops girls rush to them and cover them with kisses. Ask me the exact the reason. Hahaha! I don’t know.
Together with his 4 band mates namely Steven O’neal, Francis McGo, James Adam and Bryan Walsh, he’s currently celebrating his birthday at Classy Lady’s. Well, I’m a great fan of this boyband that’s why I’m here even though my parents would scold me and I’d surely end up grounded. There’s a thing I don’t like about Mark though… him having a boyfriend! Yes, you heard it right. He’s a gay. Nevertheless, he’s the most special person I’ve known, next to Steven O’neal.
“Thank you! Have a wonderful night!” Mark said. People started to evacuate the place and I too, took the exit. I tried to catch up with F-squared and when I finally did, I saw Mark kiss his boyfriend.
“Oh…how I hate it!” I walked away and headed for home. “Oh… that ugly guy! I wish he was never born! How dare he kiss Mark… ugh! What an ugly creature… if only I could change the world. But how can I change the world, coz I’m sure I can’t change his mind… where’s the miracle I …need… now.” I stopped when I saw a bluish-white light behind a tree. I came nearer and it glowed brighter. Then a necklace floated in the air.
“I’m the miracle now… and you can change the world.”
“What are you?”
“I’m a necklace…duh!!!”
“Yes… I know you’re a necklace but why are you talking? Who are you?”
“Tsk…tsk… tsk… you don’t know me? I’m Neck, man!”
“Excuse me… mind your manners… doesn’t your mother teach you how to deal with young ladies like me?”
“Correction… I’m a necklace and I don’t have a mother. Only a creator.”
“Whatever.” I barely noticed that I was already in front of our house. I went in and had a delicious supper with my mom.
“Paige, what’s that light glowing in your pocket?”
“Mom, just a cellphone.”
“Ah,right. She said. I finished my food and went in my room.
“Neck, why are you here?”
“As I’ve said, you need my help.”
“And how are you supposed to help me?” Neck turned my room into a hotel. I was amazed.
“You’re gonna be useful, Neck. Here’s how you can help me. I’m thinking of spying every move of F-squared. I wish to monitor each schedule they have. You know, I love them… their songs are awesome and when I’m listening to them I feel loved and lifted. Sort of walking in the clouds.”
“Love, love, love! That’s crazy! How would you know? It’s obsession!”
“Fine! If you’re not helping me, then go, get lost!”
“What on earth do you want me to do with them?”
“So, you’re interested. Uhm. I want to teach Mark Collins a lesson. He’s not supposed to be like that… it’s against the Law!”
“Exactly what kind of lesson do you want to teach him?”
“Make him a girl!”
“What? Are you insane?”
“It’s the only way. And when he becomes a girl, it’s proper for him/her to love his boyfriend.”
Neck finally agreed with me. It took endless persuasion and I felt really tired and out of breath by the time he gave in. Little did I know that I was making a terrible mistake, a very terrible mistake.
At school, the next day…
“I’m late for Chemistry… again.”
“Miss McBride, why are you late?”
“Traffic, ma’am.”
“Traffic? You’re just in the neighborhood.”
“I mean… traffic inside the house.”
“Ok. Sit down and wait for instructions.” I wasn’t really paying attention. I was remembering what happened last night. The night that changed Mark’s life’s history… the night he changed into a girl…
“Who are you? Am I just dreaming? Do you have a mirror?” he asked after gaining consciousness. He fainted you know, when he saw his reflection. Mark’s a girl every night and a man every morning. I guess I should use she since he just turned into a girl.
“Ssh… slowly…I only have one mouth to answer you. I’m Paige, you’re not dreaming and of course, I do have a mirror. Here!”
“Aah! This can’t be! I can’t believe it! Wake me up, please!”
“You’re awake, Mark! You’re awake!”
“Mark? Do you think I’m still Mark? Look at me; I’ve turned into a lady!”
“Isn’t it great? Now it’s proper for you to fall in love with a guy coz you’re a girl now… not like before…”
“What? You know so much about me…”
“Of course I do… I’m your no. 1 fan and I know -”
“Enough! That’s enough!” and with that Mark left me alone.
“Ms. McBride are you still with us?”
“Yes, ma’am.” I said and the bell rang. I was saved by the bell.
“Oh,Neck. We’ve got to find Mark. Pls. we have to.”
“Why you want to make him more miserable?”
“No. I want to set things right.”
“Really? Way to go, Paige!!!” We found Mark at his favorite bar, the Classy Lady’s. Of course, he’s with his other band mates. They’re all so handsome but right now I’ve got something more important to do.
“Mark, I want to talk to you. It’s really important.”
“What? It’s you again?” he said.
“C’mon, Mark. She needs to talk to you.” Steven said. Mark agreed and as we walked, I explained to him everything. From the night of his birthday, to the part I asked Neck to make him a girl.
“I really shouldn’t believe this but-“Mark said.
“But you better believe her, man. She’s ain’t lyin’.” Neck interrupted.
“Wow! A talking necklace. That means you can do magic too.”
“So, please believe me… for these words I say are true.” I said. Mark smiled. That’s a line from one of their songs.
“Nobody should know about this, Mark.”
“Yeah, I won’t tell anybody.” He smiled again and invited me to go to their little gathering tomorrow. I watched him walk back to Classy Lady’s.
“Huh. It’s time for me to leave, Paige.”
“Oh, Neck. I will miss you! Thank you for teaching me a lesson. I’ve learned a lot.”
“Better keep in mind that messing with other people’s lives is not good.”
“Yes, sir!” and with that I watched Neck disappear into the starlit sky.
